GOODWOOD VIDEO - On Smugmug
The Goodwood Revival Near Chichester, UK is Racing, Vintage Cars, Vintage Bikes and People dressed in Vintage Dress. Most people at the event were dressed in period clothing. What period? Didn't much matter, mostly 40's through the 60's, some 70's and a bit of the flapper period, but there were some great outfits. People put a lot of effort in. Seeing people walking around in the incredible heat and hot sun while wearing mink coats, or wool suits made me hot. So did the mini skirts.
I have found that I can use my stupidity and American Accent to my advantage. After walking or standing around for hours, literally not sitting down for 7 hours, I see something I want to take a photo of. I don't have the right pass, but I go to the entrance anyway. The guards said, "No.... you need a pass. Wait a minute where are you from?" I told them. One says "Well, you've come all this way, you oughta go in and have a look around".
In this paddock were some of the most incredible, rare, beautiful race cars. Famous racers from the 1950's, 1960's and more. Many of these cars were priceless. SO.... WHAT was it that drew me into this area:
THIS.

A 9 cylinder Radial Engine motorcycle.

The machining work is phenomenal.
full size
The intake was interesting.
full size
The transmission tiny.
full size
A phenomenal price as well, that is about $150,000. Not sure if it really is for sale though.
full size
Anyway, back to the show.
I caught the Spitifires zooming around. Fantastic to see.
full size
This was pretty much like any other car show I have ever been to:

This one is... interesting.
full size
Interesting and most photographed.
full size
This one is more standard.
full size
Great price too. Although I think this may have been the price when new as it was a recreation of a bintage car dealership.
full size
Gotta love the British Attitude. Very civilized. We would probably join in to help, just to be neighborly and all.
full size
Oh, Look, some of our stuff is already here.
full size
Oh Yeah, Racing. This is supposed to all be about racing.
full size
Just a few of the cars that will be racing, or had raced, or something. I am not much into facts and details.
full size
Oh Boy, the motorcycle that was driven by that humanitarian butcher Che' Guevara.
full size
See, there is proof.
full size
And an accurate relating of the story.
full size
More or less.
full size
Priceless Car. Big Brass Hammer. Sure.
full size
Oh, Yeah, Racing, this is supposed to be about racing. I took some videos. Videos suck.
full size
Vintage bikes healed over. The way racing should be. This was a two rider race. NO, Not both at the same time, half way through the race they swapped riders. For the victory lap, both the riders were on the bike smoking cigars.. The winners got off and kissed all the girls waiting at the fence.
full size
Of course, the Triumph won.
full size
There was same car racing too. See the video to see these cars in a controlled, more or less, drift. I think the tires are vintage too.
full size
A friend just bought a Mustang. Not this one, but it is the one he should have gotten.
full size
Good brakes and engine and suspension in a vintage Mustang. Cool.
full size
THIS is a parking lot. All cars from here on were in the parking lot. There was a lot for pre 1969 vehicles, older ones had to park with everyone else (more or less). This lot went on forever. You could walk your legs off here. I did.
OK, who here DID NOT have a car something like this as your first car?
full size
Remember, Parking Lot....
full size
Tiny car dwarfed by a Mustang.
full size
A Vincent relegated to where the Riffraff park.
full size
Oh Yeah, the more modern cars had to park way over here. Mclaren's are considered Riffraff aparently.
full size
Yeah, Yeah, Parking Lot.....
full size
What you can see, ALL of what you can see is just a portion of the under 1969 parking lot. Really, it was BIG>
full size
Did I mention this is a parking lot?
full size
The RB.23 - The world's Oldest Working Jet Engine (1943). I can confirm it is a working engine, I saw them start it. Boring as hell in the video, so I did not show that.
full size
This was built by Spain in 1949, later set up for the 1968 movie "The Battle of Britain"
full size
A few Parachute Troops relaxing.
full size
One of the coolest races that I missed used these little pedal cars. Driven by kids. Notice the one painted just like the real car?
full size
I took a lot of videos, but none of them came out very well, except for maybe this one.
